pen Life Lab

Open research in artificial life

How does life-like organization emerge?

We explore how simple components, resources, and interactions can give rise to persistent, self-propagating organization.

Open Life Lab brings together computational experiments and the research behind them. Start with a simple world, examine what happens, and use the evidence to shape the next experiment.

Experiment. Understand. Investigate.

01 / Simulations

Watch a world unfold

Adjust the baseline’s starting conditions, launch a run, and replay the recorded frames. Analyze energy expenditure and collection after the run.

Where we are

A first experiment. Many open questions.

The current baseline studies movement, resource collection, energy sharing, and contact-connected associations. Its rules and numerical defaults are provisional.

Self-maintenance, propagation, adaptation, and the origins of behavior guide the broader research. The project is at an early stage; no result yet establishes machine life.
