Models of Cell Processes are Far from the Edge of Chaos.
Paper summary
Analyzes seventy-two experimentally supported discrete models of cell processes and finds long-timescale order stronger than edge-of-chaos expectations. Perturbation propagation is often transient or has limited phenotypic effect.
Relevance to the project
A counterweight to assuming criticality is required for biological function. Evaluate sustained neural activity, robustness, and adaptation as separate project goals.
Results for these cell-process models do not exclude chaotic regimes in every biological system.
