Activity-dependent scaling of quantal amplitude in neocortical neurons

Paper summary

Reports activity-dependent regulation of excitatory synaptic strength in cultured neocortical neurons. Changes in overall activity induce compensatory changes in quantal amplitude, supporting a homeostatic scaling mechanism distinct from strengthening only particular active contacts.

Relevance to the project

A reference for regulating adaptive weights so learning does not simply drive runaway activity or silence. Any scaling mechanism would remain a design hypothesis.
