Uniform distributions of glucose oxidation and oxygen extraction in gray matter of normal human brain: No evidence of regional differences of aerobic glycolysis.
Paper summary
Uses PET measurements of oxygen extraction and glucose utilization to test regional metabolic differences in healthy resting brains. Results support largely uniform oxidation-related measures across the examined resting-state networks.
Relevance to the project
Qualifies simple mappings from network activity to energy costs. A future neural energy model should distinguish measured substrate use from assumed computational expenditure.
Healthy resting-state averages do not imply identical costs during every task or condition.
